Using GA4 can be a learning curve for many of us – but Google is doing its best to make life easier by updating the tool regularly.
However, navigating to Google’s release notes and understanding the impact of these updates isn’t the most intuitive process when we’re swept up in day-to-day business.
That’s why we’re stepping in to explain, in clear terms, what the latest GA4 updates mean – and why you should care about them.
Let’s take a look at changes to the Data Import function.
Data Import
Overview
Businesses can now easily manage multiple data sources in GA4 without having to combine or clean them up manually.
New protections prevent existing data from being accidentally overwritten, and you can see your data import limits in real time.
What was happening before?
Companies had to handle data outside GA4, combining and aligning sources manually
Without the option to import multiple sources for each data type, this process was time-consuming and increased the risk of mistakes
Businesses also couldn’t see their data import limits easily, so they had to guess or manually track their quota
What happens now?
Businesses can import multiple sources per data type directly into GA4
Data import protections ensure existing data stays safe, so any new data will be added without replacing old records
You can also track your data quota right in the Admin page
What does it mean for me?
Less manual work and more confidence in your data. With easier imports and safer data handling, you can focus on analysing your data, not managing it.
